Opera-Myth "Ukraine - Terra Incognita". Series 4. The myth of Steppe
The Myth of Steppe is the fourth part of the contemporary Ukrainian Opera-Myth "Ukraine - Terra Incognita". Ancient ritual songs, unique Ukrainian polyphony, free jazz, video art, new symphonic music, modern choreography, futuristic folk costumes - all of this is combined in a new unusual and exquisite opera.
Opera-Myth is dedicated to the warrior and singer Wassyl Slipak and all the defenders of Ukraine.
🌾 "The steppe is a civilization border. For centuries, Ukraine served as a stronghold for the whole Europe. Till this day, our warriors stand in this very steppe, protecting the same values they did generations ago," says the author and director of the opera, Ulyana Horbachevska.
From the libretto:
The steppe is a landscape of freedom, watching over the horizon, a maidan of the spirit, a battlefield for the ideal in us, for returning to ourselves.
The battle continues. A battle that is over a thousand years old.
We were given this space. Here, each generation was able to test itself and give the next a chance.
Here you dare to challenge fear and despair and consciously go to the very edge.
Your heart is hardened and it beats in unison with those around you.
The Myth of Steppe is dedicated to the masculine spirit.
Now, in the face of the threat of destruction, it is important for Ukrainians to preserve their culture and tell the world about it. Please help us in this cause - share the TV version of the Opera-Myth "Ukraine - Terra Incognita" with your friends. With those who are able to hear and feel. Those who understand the fragility of beauty and the value of freedom.
The project of the TV version is funded from the Stabilization Fund for Culture and Education 2022 by the Federal Foreign Office of Germany and the Goethe-Institut.
The Opera-Myth project is organized by YMCA Lviv with the Wassyl Slipak Foundation.
