Opera-Myth "Ukraine - Terra Incognita". Series 1: The Myth of Kin

The Myth of Kin is the first part of the contemporary Ukrainian Opera-Myth "Ukraine - Terra Incognita". Ancient ritual songs, unique Ukrainian polyphony, free jazz, video art, new symphonic music, modern choreography, futuristic folk costumes - all of this is combined in a new unusual and exquisite opera.

Opera-Myth is dedicated to the warrior and singer Wassyl Slipak and all the defenders of Ukraine.

🌿 "We live in such a strange time in Ukraine that it feels like we are among myths that have come to life. As if we are co-creators of the newest Ukrainian myth. Because now, at this very moment, in the Ukrainian Steppe, there is a warrior with an Iron Heart defending his family, his home, and his love," says the author and director of the opera, Ulyana Horbachevska.

From the libretto:

"A kin is a complex ornament of codes, signs, and memory that is passed down from generation to generation. "From generation to generation" - you can already feel the rhythm in this phrase.

The rhythm of feet in dance, the rhythm of simple work, the rhythm of hands kneading dough in a bowl, the rhythm of ritual songs, the rhythm of procreation.

The blows of fate. The cyclic circle of the year. Life as an endless dance. Rituals that balance the physical and spiritual.

Wedding chants, spring invocations, Kupala charms.

The Myth of Kin is dedicated to the feminine.

Now, in the face of the threat of destruction, it is important for Ukrainians to preserve their culture and tell the world about it. Please help us in this cause - share the TV version of the Opera-Myth "Ukraine - Terra Incognita" with your friends. With those who are able to hear and feel. Those who understand the fragility of beauty and the value of freedom.

The project of the TV version is funded from the Stabilization Fund for Culture and Education 2022 by the Federal Foreign Office of Germany and the Goethe-Institut.

The Opera-Myth project is organized by YMCA Lviv with the Wassyl Slipak Foundation.
