Opera-Myth "Ukraine - Terra Incognita". Series 2. The Myth of Home

The Myth of Home is the second part of the contemporary Ukrainian Opera-Myth "Ukraine - Terra Incognita". Ancient ritual songs, unique Ukrainian polyphony, free jazz, video art, new symphonic music, modern choreography, futuristic folk costumes - all of this is combined in a new unusual and exquisite opera.

Opera-Myth is dedicated to the warrior and singer Wassyl Slipak and all the defenders of Ukraine.

🌼 "Our ancestors sang the image of an ideal Home and passed this image through songs, through rituals. For us, Ukrainians, this topic has become hypersensitive now. Many of us have lost our homes, many of us are afraid of losing them, and we all dream of rebuilding our common home," says the author and director of the opera, Ulyana Horbachevska.

From the libretto:

The first steps, the first sounds of speech, the first emotions are the preface of life. These are monologues in silence and a lullaby for the universe.

Through lullabies, carols, and fairy tales, the world of Home, which we hardly remember, is revealed. But when we hear them, something inside us begins to recover the ancient memory.

This dream was passed down from generation to generation and became a reality during the holidays, when the whole family gathers together in a large room. In the moments of sacred domestic silence, when a mother lulls her child to sleep, when the heavenly and earthly meet inside a person.

Now, in the face of the threat of destruction, it is important for Ukrainians to preserve their culture and tell the world about it. Please help us in this cause - share the TV version of the Opera-Myth "Ukraine - Terra Incognita" with your friends. With those who are able to hear and feel. Those who understand the fragility of beauty and the value of freedom.

The project of the TV version is funded from the Stabilization Fund for Culture and Education 2022 by the Federal Foreign Office of Germany and the Goethe-Institut.

The Opera-Myth project is organized by YMCA Lviv with the Wassyl Slipak Foundation.
